The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a challenge for partners in committed relationships who appreciate scary movies: Sit down with your significant other and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 just made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but inside Together lies a deep examination about the ways we decide to love each other.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together is the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a special spark to their roles, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The narrative starts when the couple relocate from the metropolis to the rural area for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, sure, but that’s mostly where the tropes conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two fall into an subterranean cavern. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence begins influencing the couple. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past simple connection.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes amidst something horrific). Shanks weaves these elements together neatly and presents them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Nuanced Portrayals

A significant portion of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and far away from his network of friends. He is terrified of the idea of completely losing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

The couple confront the sort of issues that come with any relationship a decade in. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They still laugh together, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these anxieties of codependency and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the allegory avoids being overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for remaining unattached. On the other hand, some couples experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the finale inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply look at your other half and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform now.
