Sam Fender has given the full amount of his £25,000 award prize money to the MVT, which works to protect the Britain's grassroots music venues.

He was given the prize on mid-October as his latest record the album was chosen as the outstanding release of the past year.

He has opted to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues played in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These locations are renowned, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – about 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation supported spaces that were facing possible closure due to difficulties arising from water damage, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The concept that revenue from shows in big venues supports the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has said.

The musician is not the first artist to donate his honor prize money to good deeds.

When the band received the prize in the mid-90s for their release the album, lead singer the singer stated that the band would donate their prize money to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, artist Ms Dynamite divided her prize across multiple charities, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a grand to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they needed new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

Previously, they gave their funds to the youth organization that developed their act, alongside other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients they donated their winnings to a MS organization after a acquaintance was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," remarked singer Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved several small stages in that region, by placing them under local control.

One venue in Southampton and The Croft in that location were bought under the community ownership program, which is backed by a national body and music fans who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
