Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
